The history of
Fort Liezele

On the eve of WWI, Liezele was located in the outer defensive ring around Antwerp. The fortress forms one of the bulwarks in the impressive defensive belt designed to protect the city.

At the fort, the crew waits feverishly. Are they ready for battle and do they have the resources to stop the Germans?

The village shares in the blows

The people of Liezele share the military's fears. Will there be fighting in the area and what impact will it have on their families, their property and the village?

The Fort Liezele Museum answers all these questions. Discover the dramatic history of Liezele and its inhabitants, the events surrounding the fort and the fortunes of the garrison and its commander.
